Mateureka reopens from Saturday 8 May 2021 all weekends, according to the norm. During the closure for covid the museum has reviewed and updated, with the authoritative advice of the artist Lidia Masi, the windows dedicated to the Romans and the peoples of Central America: Maya, Inca and Aztecs.

Completely new, however, the display case dedicated to Phoenicians with statuettes of the goddess Tanit and Elissa, coming from Carthage, with the presentation of the famous problem of Princess Didone, escaped from Tyre, to which the natives gave so much land, to found Carthage, "how much can be bound by a skin of ox".

Mateureka could not pass under silence 700 years after Dante Alighieri's death whose Divine Comedy has remarkable mathematical ideas and can be considered not only literary work but also a scientific, geographical and historical work, a sort of encyclopedia of Middle Ages. To honor the great poet, the Library of the museum exposes, exceptionally, in facsimile the three wonderful incipits of the Comedy from a fine manuscript illustrated of the fifteenth century. Miniature thumbnails, elegant calligraphy and miniature hairdressers are a real delight for the eyes. After this depressing period, we all need to re-habit the beauty, a Visit to the museum can help us: this is the hope of Mateureka.

On Sunday you can book a guided tour, after booking the number 0541 928659 ; the cost is 7 euros.
